GPS trackers

What kind of GPS tracker do I need?

  • Hybrid assisted GPS
Hybrid assisted GPS fleet tracking is the latest tracking technology. They are active GPS trackers with an additional benefit: when a GPS satellite signal is not available, such as when the tracker is underneath a metal object, the tracker automatically switches over to use the local cellular network. GPS fleet tracking is great for trucking companies and other long distance tracking needs. The software interface can keep track of multiple fleet cars/trucks in one single interface with the fleet version of the tracker is used.

         Common uses:
                Fleets of cars/trucks or property
Tracking under metal objects (cars, buildings, etc...)
When you need to know where the vehicle is right now
Managing vehicle maintenance on a fleet level (maintenance reminders)

  • Active GPS
Active GPS trackers all have a subscription service that must be purchased and maintained separately. Simply log on to the web site for internet based trackers or call the card using your computer's modem for call phone based trackers. Active GPS trackers tend to be a bit more expensive, but may give you the detail you are looking for.

         Common uses:
                Single cars/trucks or property
When you need to know where the vehicle is right now
When you don't have access to the car's battery
Tracking individual employees or other drivers on your vehicle

  • Passive GPS
Passive GPS trackers store information directly into itself. When you want to view the information, simply remove the GPS tracker from the vehicle, plug it into your computer and the software places all the information on a map. Passive GPS trackers tend to be the most economical.

         Common uses:
                Single cars/trucks or property
When knowing where the car went is all you need
Keeping tabs on teenage or elderly drivers
